Canal Boat magazine, in its January issue, reports that Sainsburys are to revise their plans for their new shopping site at Selly Oak, Birmingham on the Worcester and Birmingham. The plans will once again include a short section of the Lapal Canal into Selly Oak Park. This was in the original plans but removed in favour of a Pedestrian Greenway, in their revised plans last Sptember.
Their latest plans to be sumitted for planning permission soon will now include a “narrow canal channel” says Canal Boat.
What excellent news, which I’m sure will enhance the new development as a place to head to for boaters.
You can see the layout of the site still showing the Pedestrian Greenway and not the Lapal Canal, on Sainsbury’s website and you can submit a comment there also.
There doesn’t appear to be a planning application currently on Birmingham Council’s website, but I’ll keep my eyes on it and report if and when it appears.
