LiverpoolBoatShowSo the show was cancelled on 14 February, just 2 weeks before its opening.

This is a real shame as the venue, ignoring access and mooring for narrow boats, is terrific!

Marine Industry Events (MIE), the organiser of the 2011 Liverpool Boat Show,  announced the cancellation of this inaugural event on that day.

Basically the reason given by http://www.liverpoolboatshow.com was “MIE cited the damaging effects of the economic climate in the leisure marine sector impacting on exhibitor take-up for the event and said the integrity of the long term potential for a major boat show in Liverpool needed to be protected.

You may not have realised but there was to be a substantial presence at the show to interest canal users.

In the next few days I’ll be publishing a tour of the Liverpool Link canal, which I took on Tuesday 22 Feb. This short extension canal connects the Leeds and Liverpool canal end point to the essential tourist centre of Liverpool, the Albert Dock. This £22million project does not seem to me to be delivering worth to canal users. Please return to this site or subscribe to emails from this site (see top of left sidebar) to find out more when I publish the article. I think it’s an eye opener!
