It has been suggested that there should be a Charities Ombudsman for all charities including the new Canal & River Trust.
This hopefully would ensure that the new trust can be held more accountable for its actions and provide a complaints procedure when the public believes that the already inadequate income is not being spent wisely.
Many people are concerned that the old Nationalised Industry culture of spending on things which do not appear to produce any tangible benefit might continue. Some people consider that an example of this is the money to be spent on rebranding with new signs on the canals, change of stationery, etc, when canal dredging is insufficient due to lack of funds.
