The 9th annual Braunston Historic Narrow Boat Rally was held over the weekend 25-26th June 2011. This event is extremely colourful, all boats being polished to look their very best. This year was bigger than ever with 113 vintage boats attending beating last year’s record of 93.
The event was officially opened at 11am on Saturday 25the by vintage steam driven nb President towing its butty Kildare at the head of the vintage boat parade.
Unfortunately the sun did not show for much of the day on Saturday when I visited but the large crowd of onlookers were in joyous mood as is usual for the event.
As well as the vintage boats there were a number of stalls selling canal objects, maps, books magazines, etc and a well-attended beer tent.
But the stars of the show were the boats and their crews who could be seen expending elbow grease a plenty in preparation for the parades and all enjoying meeting up with old friends and making new ones. You can sense the high spirits from the slideshow below.
Here is a slideshow of photos of the event.
