Pier Head Gardens, Liverpool - artists impresionI made two trips to Liverpool in late February early March 2011, to investigate the Liverpool Link Canal which opened with great pomp and ceremony by those local people interested in their wonderful waterways asset.

The lead in from the end of the Leeds Liverpool canal is, after a good start, currently a no man’s land of levelled ex dockland, a sad reflection on the glorious days of Liverpool’s import/export successes. I’m sure this will all be corrected as the recession recedes, and the value of the visual spectres across the Mersey is realised in super residential areas and the dock waters turned into marinas (hopefully for visiting boats).

Liverpool is having a rebirth and is well worth a visit both of its restored waterways and of its city centre. The focus of all this is Albert Dock which just shows why we should preserve our heritage and remember those whose toil in less easy days now benefits us.
