Well….blessed again by superbly sunny weather the 28th open weekend was sure to be enjoyable – and so it was.
Held centered on the Bonded Warehouse (seen left) at the Stourbridge end of the Town Arm of the Stourbridge Canal a very picturesque route largely devoid of industrial buildings, it lends itself to a great venue.
There was the usual varied mixture of things to see, so ensuring enjoyment by all visitors. What is notable is the wonderful atmosphere created by the wealth of both vintage and modern narrow boats. The boaters who have navigated to this spot were in joyous mood and happy to talk to anyone be they local citizens, or canal enthusiasts like myself – a photogongoozler!
There was a parade mid-afternoon of local dignatories on four boats from Wordsley Junction where the Stourbridge Town Arm meets the main Stourbridge Canal along to the Bonded Warehouse in Stourbridge. This was headed by the Stourbridge Mayor, Cllr Michael Evans and his consort Cllr Sue Greenway amongst others. They were a very friendly couple and I enjoyed talking to them.
