Hi Pete, thanks for your comment which I'm sure will help others.

Firstly, the slideshows on canalscene.com run under Adobe flash Player. So they won't run with apple products - ipad and iphone - because apple don't support the Flash Player.
(Soon, the software I use for creating these will be able to produce HTML5 slideshows which will - I will then need to recreate them all!!)

Secondly, if you're not using apple, you may have a pop-up blocker set in your browser - a little message should "pop up" at the top telling you that a pop-up has been blocked and normally it will ask you to click on something to allow the pop-up. This default can probably be changed in the Settings or Options of your Browser, if you wish.

Thirdly, when you click on the slideshow you may get a message saying you need to download Adobe Flash Player - you should follow the instructions for this - the Flash Player is used very widely and is harmless. (This is likely to happen with the Firefox browser).

I have just tested the slideshow on Internet Explorer, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox browsers and all work.

Hope this Helps,
Keep visiting the site!

Hi - I can't get your slideshow to run - is there a problem? By the way, I've shedloads of digital camera photos from when the barge canal was being restored; would anyone be interested in copies? Cheers, Pete

Personally I think putting the Lapal canal restoration project on ice is only a good thing, as the whole thing was nothing but a total waste of money and resources motivated more by nostalgia than to serve any real need. At the end of the day, the re-boring of the Lapal tunnel was never going to happen, and the revised idea of taking a bridge over the top even less so; there's no navigational imperative for restoring the canal anyway since there's no urgent need for boats to be able to get to Dudley from Worcester quicker than going through Birmingham city centre and along the main line, and the idea of having a leisure marina at California / Weoley Castle is one held to clearly by nobody who has ever lived in or sat on a bus going through the area.

Even if we were still in an era in which the money was flowing as free as water through the bottom paddle, that money should always be prioritised into improving and developing existing canal infrastructure rather than being wasted on what amounts to vanity restoration projects in areas where restoration isn't really needed.
