The Stratford-upon-Avon Canal takes you from the vast Birmingham conurbation, through the affluent and desirous suburbs of Solihull, down through rural Warwickshire to the cultural and historic delights of the world renowned town of Stratford on Avon, the birth place of William Shakespeare. What contrasts!

Boaters head down this narrow canal in their hundreds….then some venture down the beautiful River Avon to Tewkesbury and thenceforth turn northwards up  the River Severn to Worcester or down to Gloucester.

I live in Birmingham overlooking the canals and often catch a train out to the Stratford Canal because I can alight at one station then walk along the canal to another to return home – ideal, no return walk!

This is a beautiful route. I have divided my exploration into sections as shown in the left sidebar.
